How the journey started —————
My passion for art and design started at a young age when I dreamed of being a fashion designer. I have always been drawn to how colors, lines and shapes can evoke certain emotions, draw your eyes to certain places and bring things together.
I grew up part of a culture that celebrated the arts, but it was never accepted as a career choice. The plan for my life seem laid out for me and I had no say- there were expectations put on me that I was meant to fulfill. But no matter how much I was living to please others, the dream of design never left my heart.
I studied fashion design in college, keeping it a secret from anyone, but due to internal guilt and pressure, I ended up getting my Bachelors of Science degree in Merchandising and Management. Soon after, I started my 5 year career at Target Corporation in merchandising and buying.
I felt uninspired, burnt out and unfulfilled, so I started on a journey of self discovery and the fire for design came to the forefront once again. It led me to switch to a career in marketing, working for startups in the Minneapolis/Twin Cities area. In that timeframe, I dabbled in design and digital illustration, which led me to start a non-profit lifestyle brand, Free Citizen Co. And my creative journey began.
Some other things——
When I’m not working on my creative ventures, I can usually be found exploring with my husband and son or hanging out with family and friends. In my spare time, I enjoy traveling, fine dining, getting lost, and getting out in nature.
————— My creative journey
My art and design ventures continued to evolve and in 2018, I started my own creative studio that showcased my work in textile design, stationary design and illustration.
I aspire to use my art and design to encourage others to celebrate their uniqueness, be authentic, find joy and push past freedom to gain a life of fulfillment. This is often represented through illustrations of people, florals, and hand lettered designs..
In 2021, I opened my new shop Chehraz Studio, sharing a curated assortment of art, home goods, and accessories. My personal shop is my way to continue to express what is in my heart that I cannot always put into words.
